Model:S40
Year:2000
Engine:2.0 LPT
Auto/Manual:Manual
Mileage (approx):100,000

A few weeks ago a loud knocking noise started from behind the dash on the passenger’s side when the ignition is on.
If I put the blowers on to re-circulate, and the little orange light comes on under the blower dial, then the noise stops.
The blowers can be in the ‘Off’ position and the noise still happens, I have to leave the re-circulate button on at all times regardless of whether the blowers are on or not…

Any of you brain boxes have an idea ?
It is driving me batty !

Does the knocking change frequency dependant on fan speed? Almost sounds like the recirc flap is loose and knocking the fan blades?

I don't recall, I have left it on recirculate for the past month... Rolling Eyes

I'll check on my drive to work tomorrow.

Tested it.

The ticking sound stays a constant speed regardless of the speed the blowers are switched to.
