Model:v40
Year:98
Engine:2.0 lpt
Auto/Manual:M
Mileage (approx):130000

One for the tech heads out there !

what are the main differences between the t4 and lpt engines ?
as most people, more power for little work would be nice, would it be possible to just change the turbo/wastegate ?

advice much appreciated

The downside with the LPT engine is the high compression which means you will have to use high octane fuel (super unleaded) and other ways of preventing detonation will be highly beneficial (e.g. Aquamist water injection). However, it is a tunable engine; lots of guys in the US (where they only had the LPT) have fitted a turbo of a T4 onto their cars and tuned them to T4 power, and in some instances more. You would need the ECU remapped to gain the full benefit. An absolute maximum of 14 psi boost (so a calibrated boost guage). Bear in mind that the lpt (or B4204T3 engine) is not as strong internally as the T4.

On your head be it....!

Ta for that

I've considered a turbo swap, but like you say it could mean an early bath for the rest of the engine !!

Do you know of anyone local who can remap the ecu ?

Turbo swap will work, but don't over boost, and look after the rest of the engine. Not sure who does ECU remaps round here. Maybe Loopy has some info...

Thinking about it, there is a T4 being broken in the For Sale section...
