according to vardis the 2 litre 16 valve can be upgraded to a t5 and also list part no for the engine mount upgrade kit how ever its only recommend to do this upgraded if u have the t4 lump as standard fitments on the engine so for want of enougher word u would need to get ur self a 2 litre 16 v t4 engine and box replacement. upgrade the engine mounts then swap the t4 turbo for the t5 and then bobs ur fanny's uncle
one other thing u will need to sort out is the ecu i haven't had a chance to look but i believe u would need to change that as well |

i dont now u might have to cut and hammer the pannels my t4 lunp is quite tite in the engine bay and it fitted backwards let me now thow if u can

got to say i have never seen any info on vadis regarding this mike? where did you see that? I think i can see the confusion. Are you thinking of the T5 turbo, (not the T5 engine that everyone refers to when they say T5, which confusingly has the T3 turbo generally). This thread was asking can you have a T5 engine into a S40.
Ok thats so confusing, Let me explain
The S40 T4 had the 1.9 T4 engine then later the 2.0 T4 engine
B4194T and then either the B4204T3 and the B4204T5
The T5 engine everyone knows and loves from the V70/850 etc is the 5 cylinder engine,
B5234T or more commonly in the later ones B5234T3, and also some other variations too.
The original post of this thread is asking can the B5234T (850 T5) engine be fitted into a S40 T4
Mike your confusion sounds like vadis was saying that the turbo from the S40 B4204T5 can be fitted to the S40 B4204T3 to me. Vadis would never talk about dropping the T5 lump into a t4 quite so easily, at least i cant see that.
So, to answer the question, i believe that the T5 engine is simply too big to fit in the bay (transverse). If i remember right we measured the room and measured a T5 engine a few years back when spesh was considering dropping one into a 440 turbo.
Ecu would defintely have to be changed! the management on a 850 T5 is for a 5 cylinder engine, the T4 is a 4 cylinder, so its not just a case of swapping ECU's, it the complete wiring looms, gearbox, everything.

In the boot maybe, but not in the engine bay. Did you know a T5R interior fits into a Passat estate?

yes mate, definitely a 5 cylinder engine in that (and all other C70 engines too)
volvo never fitted any 4 cylinder engines to anything in the 850 series or P1 or P2 series cars (C70 is P1).
